During Spring Break, WHCC and KCCC take the youth to participate in CSM. This organization "provides students and adults with an effective urban ministry experience that transforms lives, influences local churches and honors Christ." We get to participate in a prayer tour around downtown Houston, serve at different nonprofit organizations, try different cultural foods, and attend a different church for one Sunday.

It's an amazing ministry and I recommend it for any youth group! This year Katy brought 16 youth with 2 counselors (Ed and myself). WHCC brought 11 youth with 4 counselors (Jodi, Mike, May, and Cinthia). It was a pretty diverse group of personalities and age, but we had a lot of fun! We split into three different van groups so Ed and I took care of group #3. We had Daniel, Henry, Matthew, Amy, Jen, Kevin, Daniel T., Jason, and David. I really liked our group -- they were mature, hard-working, and very flexible!

We volunteered at Open Door which is a faith-based recovery and rehabilitation shelter dedicated to transforming the lives of the addicted, destitute, homeless or disabled. We spent most of the morning preparing, serving, and cleaning up breakfast along with playing bball with some of the guys. In the afternoon, we were at The Beacon. It is a day center run by a local church. It focuses on serving the homeless through laundry, shower, food, and clothing services. Our group was split into three groups w/ the kids handing out clothes to the homeless, some of the kids doing laundry, and the other kids helping out in the kitchen.
